Marathon Complete 02/21/2011
I finished my 3rd marathon, the LiveSTRONG Austin Marathon Sunday morning and recorded my personal record! In 2008 I ran the Disney Marathon in 5:02:47, last year I ran the Austin Marathon in 4:45:28, and today I ran in 4:27:33!!! I feel so great about my improvement, and I can't wait for my next marathon! Here I am before the race started. Thanks to Rebekah Davis for taking the photo. She's a beast, and I know when she is fully healthy, she'll dominate a full marathon soon! I want to thank all of you for the support. As I ran across Austin Sunday, I saw so many great family friends cheering me on! When I was right by my apartment in Tarrytown, I saw these people! That's my mom Janie, my brother Charlie, and great friends Hayley and Judy! My dad was in the street ready to hand me my water bottle and some more sports Jelly Beans. Oh and my nephew Parker is there too! Then when I went down the road, I saw so many of my students and their families! It was so awesome to have them cheering me on. As I can up to the half way point, which is right by Casis Elementary, I saw so many supportive faces! Many of my students were standing outside with huge banners cheering me on. It made me so happy to have that support and made me realize, I can do this! I also want to thank Sheri and Tarah for cheering me on all throughout the marathon. I saw them 3 different times, and I was so surprised and shocked every time I saw their smiling faces! It was also great seeing wonderful coworkers and friends Amy and Stacey, and their two kids Caleb and Payton. Great inspiration, and thanks to Caleb for some more sports beans! The sugar boost carried me to the end. Here are some photos of them from the road! Every cheering, smiling face gave me strength and carried me to the finish line. Y'all are the best! Congratulations to Young Guns Coach Courtney Ewing for finishing her 1st half marathon with a time of 2:43:56! Congrats go out to these Casis Teachers for finishing the Austin Half Marathon today, Allison DeYoung, Bonnie Pham, Rebekah Davis, Jennifer Bigbee, Kristy Kepple and Cindy Samok! Congrats too to Alli Phillips of Backyard Fitness for finishing the full marathon in 4:04:40! 2011 has been a really wonderful year so far. I know I can keep it up, because everything in life is what you make it! This is my last Coach's blog for awhile, but I know there will be new challenges, new 1 Comment Blog 26.2!!! 02/19/2011
This is my last of 26.2 blog posts! It's been a really fun experience to reflect, encourage, and thank all of the great people in my life. Marathon day is finally here, and I am very excited. As I look back on all my blog posts, I was thinking of a unique motto for Young Guns and our runners. I came up with this, "Run for Fun!" When we run for fun, we eliminate the stress of trying to compete with others, we enjoy the people around us, and we have fun in doing something we love...running! As I run tomorrow, I'll be having fun thinking back on all the great events in my life. Since the race is getting closer and closer, I've been frequently asked, "What time are you going for?" My reply has been pretty consistent with, "I'll just be glad to finish!" I've learned that when I set time goals, I feel like I let others down if I don't make it in that time. So if tomorrow I am faster then last year, awesome; if I'm slower then my first year, that's ok too. I'm just looking forward to the energy of the race, the burning in my legs, and the cheering fans along the way. Last year after I finished my 2nd marathon, I said I wasn't planning on doing another marathon again. Today, before starting the Austin marathon tomorrow, I want to run the Austin Marathon every year. I know I have yet to complete my run tomorrow, but I want to keep running, keep challenging myself, and keep having fun no matter what happens. I was also thinking how awesome it would be to complete the challenge of a half or full Ironman! Let's take one step at a time though! Well, I know it's only 8pm, but I am starting to get really excited, and I feel like I should get some rest. I plan to complete one more blog post after the race to let everyone know how it turned out. Thanks again for all the love and support. Run for fun, always!!! Coworkers! 02/19/2011
I am so grateful to be teaching at the best school in Austin with the best coworkers. Everyday, my job is made easier, more fun, and a place I call home because of the awesome people I get to work with. As I run Sunday, I'll be for sure thinking about all of you and be so grateful of the support. you all inspire me to be the best teacher, friend, and leader I can be, Cliche quote: honestly, together everyone does achieve more! Thanks for being so great. I love and respect all of you all deeply. PS, see if you can find all of my typing mistakes (they are intentional). Always a teacher! A special shout out to Sheri Bryant! She's been a great friend of mine for many, many years, and I am so lucky to have her around! First high school prom, then college roommates, then cohort team members together, to teaching next door to each other for a year. We've seen a lot together, and I couldn't ask for a better friend. Thanks so much Sheri for always being so supportive and caring. Much love to you! Junior Coaches 02/19/2011
I am so lucky to have some of my former students and their siblings help coach for Young Guns. The younger runners look to these older runners as role models, and their positive, smiling faces make the younger runners try hard and have fun! I'm so grateful to have Hayley & Paul Books, Bryce & Lucas Nayden, Angel Bottera, and many other high schoolers come help with Young Guns this past year. Y'all are the best role models and really make Young Guns a fun group to be a part of! I love y'all very much and can't wait to see what the future holds for you all. Much love! Race Day Breakfast 02/19/2011
Before every long run, I usually like to wake up 2 hours before the event and start off with a good breakfast. Aside from a glass of water, I eat a banana and an English Muffin with peanut butter and honey on it. I don't like to drink more then a glass of water because lines at the starting line for portapotties are always crazy. It's also good not to drink coffee or any dairy products the morning of a race. I'm still trying to decide what to eat for my post race meal. Last year, I ate a Might Fine hamburger, and it was might fine! I'll see how I feel tomorrow when it's all said and done! Packet Pick-up 02/19/2011
Packet Pick-up is a place full of high energy and SWAG - stuff we all get! If you ever get a chance to attend a marathon packet pick-up, be prepared for lots of cool, tasty free stuff. Yesterday I had some great yogurt, a Soyjoy bar, some hybrid apple that was tasty, and got to check out some cool new running equipment like a totally water proof iPhone case and the best headphones for running, so I was told. Very fun times! .1 Blog - Motivational Quote 02/19/2011
The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. - Martin Luther King, Jr. Thanks Coaches! 02/18/2011
Since Young Gun's groups have grown each session, we've add more coaches. I'm so grateful to have Amy Stephens, Travis Robertson, Courtney Ewing, Sarah Lindsey, and Sara Preston helping coach this year. Together, we are building a fitter future for our youth. I know for sure one day in the future, we will have many Young Guns running in their first marathon. Y'all are the best and I love and respect all of y'all so much! Race Day Fuel 02/18/2011
I use the following during my races to keep me going. I'll usually take a GU around mile 6, some sports Jelly Beans and Shot Blocks throughout, another GU around 13, then a Powerbar or Snickers Bar around 16. Sometimes more, sometimes less. It all depends on the weather. Since the weather will be pretty warm, I'll need lots and lots of water and Gatorade. I haven't tried the Endurox recovering drink, but I'm going to give it a shot after the race Sunday. Always run for fun! Charlie, April, & Parker Danger! 02/18/2011
I'm so lucky to have my brother Charlie and his family living here in Austin. Charlie and his wife April have worked so hard to create a great home with their little guy Parker Danger! It's great to get to see Parker so often, and I love his anaconda squeeze hug I get from him when I have to leave. He's such a great little guy with a huge heart! Charlie, aside from being a great graphic designer who creates Young Gun's logos, is a great big brother. His attitude towards life reminds me regularly that everything in life is what you make it. All of Charlie's success has come from working hard, being positive, and living in the moment. Charlie was always very proactive growing up, and even ordered Pay I'm so glad to have Charlie, April and Parker 5 minutes away. They are always up for a good time, are raising a very sweet young man, and make everything more fun. I love y'all very much and look forward to seeing you all on the course! | AuthorCoach Chauvin prepares for his 3rd marathon! ArchivesFebruary 2011 Categories |
