Meet Our Beyond Batten Run to the Sun Team
Coach Larry Chauvin
My name is Larry Chauvin, and I currently teach 5th grade at Casis Elementary. In 2005, I started running to lose weight and get in shape. I lost 30 pounds and gained a great love for running. I started entering many 5Ks and 10Ks in Austin. This new love for running led me to complete my first marathon at Disney World in 2008. Thanks to great training and coaching, I finished the race and felt great about my accomplishment. Now I want to bring my knowledge of fitness and teaching to young runners while also having fun. For beginners and intermediate runners, we will not only have a great cardiovascular workout, but we will also work on core strengthening, nutrition, and participate in fun filled activities which will give participants a well rounded running experience. For the more serious athlete, we will work on activities such as intervals, hill runs, and core activities that will advance running ability. Please email me if you have any additional questions at larryachauvin@gmail.com. View my marathon blog here!
Coach Amy Stephens
Amy Stephens currently teaches 3rd grade at Casis. Amy has been teaching at Casis since 2004 and is an experienced runner. Aside from running cross country in college, Amy has run in 5 marathons and is currently training for her 6th marathon! Amy is a great addition to Young Guns Running Group. It's one thing to be good at something, it's another to be able to teach others to do what you love. Amy brings both a love of the sport, as well as a love of teaching others. If you have any questions for Amy, please feel free to email her at ac.ness@hotmail.com.
Coach Travis Robertson
Travis Robertson is a commercial real estate broker for The Weitzman Group. He's been there since graduating from the University of Texas in 2007. Travis has been a competitive swimmer since elementary school, and received medals on the state level for 3 of his 4 years in high school. In addition to swimming, Travis spends much of his time cycling and running. He competes in a number of local Austin events and has a real love for triathlons. Travis loves to train but believes in an equal amount of emphasis on nutrition and general wellness.
Coach Anissa Zamarron
Young Guns is proud to welcome Anissa "The Assassin" Zamarron, the 2 time Fly Weight Division World Champion to our fitness groups. Anissa is a world champion boxer who started her pro boxing career in 1995, and won her 1st World Title in 2000. After a great 12 year career, Annisa retired from professional boxing in 2007. Anissa will be leading a boxing group in which participants will get a chance to work on the fundamentals of boxing, while helping build self confidence & strength. Participants will learn proper striking form, as well as build core muscles with an abdominal routine, learn the rules in the ropes, and have fun. Focused mitt work with coaches will take place as well as bag punches. Anissa also leads a few adult classes too, so contact YG's if you're interested in more info!
Volunteer Junior Coaches
Many former participants, like Hayley, Paul, and Lucas, love to help share their love and knowledge of running to younger participants. Volunteer coaches also act as role models for participants and work hard to ensure every running session runs smoothly. It's great to have these middle school and high school students share their time and effort with the Young Guns Running Group.
